General codes and conventions in horrors that help categories these types of films in that specific genre. Noticeable features consistently found in horror films would be where the atmosphere is usually sinister and location frequently appears dark and isolated also gloomy music is used to help increase the frightening atmosphere. Often montage editing and quick shots in the trailer are used to increase tension and suspense, trailers preview the best (scariest) footage to engage the audience and encourage them to see the film. Common plots within the horror genre involve themes of death, supernatural or mental issues. With the lead character that usually ends up surviving and slaying the antagonist’s character, the antagonist character who typically have a pattern in the way they work or kill. I found horror productions convey these scenes through specific camera angles for example: extreme close-ups are used to emphasis the subject(s), tilts are used to create disorientation, handheld shots where the scene looks realistic, making it more believable and establishing shots to show the location, stereotypically isolated buildings.
Codes and conventions of a
horror are factors stereotypically known to happen within this type of film.
Audiences like to guess who the killer is as soon as someone has been killed,
so due to the norms that generally happen in most horror films their led to
believe a killer in the house it then becomes evident to the audience that the
victim can then be found trapped. Once Id watched more horrors to add to my
knowledge it became apparent that the codes and conventions to a viewer always
have an outcome the way to survive would be not to have;
• Any sexual activity
• Take drugs or consume alcohol
• Neither say "I’ll be right
back"
• A man goes to check a noise and foolish
female goes upstairs to hide.
